Event Information:

If there is a natural symbol of Dalian, it is the Acacia Tree. When they bloom in the Spring, the entire city appears as if covered in a yellow cake-like frosting for a week. Because of this, Dalian is also known as the Acacia City. The fragrance of the lantern-like flowers can be enjoyed along nearly every street and park. Many activities and festivals are organized in the city around this time, to welcome the blooms and the start of Spring. Such events include street art displays, international kite-flying competitions, Chinese calligraphy competitions, and folk art performances. A major trade fair, the Dalian Import and Export Commodities Fair, is also held during this time. Due to annual weather conditions, the acacia can being blooming anywhere between mid-April to mid-May.
